Coba Mayan Experience: Where Ancient Traditions Come Alive
Journey through the heart of Mayan culture in Coba, explore ancient ruins, and connect with local families preserving ancient ways.
The quiet village of Coba lies only 40 minutes west of the hustle and bustle of Tulum. Here the Maya civilization of the past meets the present where the Maya culture is alive and well.
Untouched by Spanish influence of the 16th century, the Maya of Coba have maintained a cultural heritage and an ancient way of life that invites today’s travelers not just to observe, but to experience life among the Maya as it has always been.
Journey with us as we retrace the footsteps of our ancestors through the ruins of the second largest city in the Maya world, as we explore the surrounding jungle alive with endemic birds, small mammals, insects, and other wildlife, and as we share life with local families who carry on the ancient ways in traditional Maya villages.
Walk along the ancient sacbejo’ob and trade routes of the Maya. As you penetrate the jungle all around you imagine these highways of commerce connecting a vast network of villages and trade centers.
We also share with a Mayan family a delicious home meal proudly cooked with local ingredients preserving the traditional cuisine.
After a cultural experience, we finish our day at a secluded cenote where we’ll have the opportunity to swim, take photos or just admire the magnificent and natural underground formations.
