Mayan Cooking Adventure: A Gastronomic Journey to the Heart of Yucatan

Mayan Cooking Class Yucatan: This activity is fun for all ages- an authentic experience if you’re traveling the Yucatan peninsula. A day trip to the heart of the Mayan communities and their gastronomy.
You’ll begin your day in Nuevo Durango, a Mayan village established by farmers and gum collectors “Chicleros” in 1952. This is where you will meet a local family inviting you to live as one of them. A visit to get you up close to the modern life of the Maya. Then it will be time to head to an organic garden waiting for you, your family or friends to harvest organic products to prepare a very traditional -Piib- the practice of cooking a wide variety of meats, vegetables and other local food in an underground oven.
Afterwards, you get to sit down for a delicious meal, featuring some of the ingredients you have prepared -from the farm to the table.
This day is combined with a visit to another local family to learn about the process of weaving hammocks, bordados and other crafts to be in contact with the fine Mayan artists of the region.
